Currently; May 2016
It's been a super long time since I've done one of these, so I figured, what the heck!? If you're interested in what I've been upto lately and whats all goings on and such. Keep reading...
Currently I'm...
Reading...
Very slowly working my way through Room. It's pretty interesting so far, but I just don't have the quiet time I used to to actually get into a book. I'm still enjoying it though.
Watching...
We've been super into YouTube. Having talks (with my hubs) about starting a channel, but I know thats a really big time commitment and I'm not sure I want to be one of those people who just talks to themselves everywhere... oh wait, I do that anyway. :P
Shows I'm enjoying right now are Jane the Virgin, Last Week Tonight, Game of Thrones, @Midnight, aaaaand Silicon Valley. If you're not on the Jane the Virgin train, seriously, its amazing. Get into that.

Reading...
I haven't really been reading much... unless you count instruction manuals, then I've been reading a ton.
Watching...
We did not get to Walking Dead in time, so the episodes have started coming down off AMC.com. Instead we've been catching up on Sons of Anarchy. I haven't loved it. Jax feels so one-note to me, and I am just waiting for everyone to die. We kind of stopped watching after the thing at the airplane hanger with Clay. Hubs was way more into the show than I am and he kinda lost interest after that. I don't blame him, so I haven't been pushing to pick it back up.
I also just marathoned the first season of Orphan Black. I have a lot more free time lately, so I watched that by myself. It's pretty amazing so far. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend. I'm excited to start season 2.
Listening to...
Still super into Serial.
Struggling with...
Hahahahahahahaha. Everything. Even sitting is difficult. Hubs laughed at me when I was moving the laundry from the washer to the dryer last week. That was real.
Inspired by...
The little man. He is amazing... and he is so big. Holy smokes.
Workouts are...
Wimpy. Luckily, my body and I communicate really well, ;) but I've been majorly wimping out on these workouts. If you follow my weekly workout recaps, you may have noticed a steady decline. I'm still getting to power yoga about once a week, and I try to dance or at least get a day or two of light cardio in, but a lot of days I am just too tired, or I wore myself out doing household stuff.
Eating...
There is zero diet happening. I'm not even being very careful about what I'm eating (oops). I occasionally enter things in MyFitnessPal, but mostly out of curiosity. I just eat what I want when I want it. Luckily, I usually crave a balanced meal, so maybe I'll have mac and cheese for lunch, but I'll follow it up with a kale salad, so I'm getting a little of everything, good and bad.
Planning...
I'm mostly just trying not to plan... at least not more than a few days or a week in advance. Since life could change very drastically at pretty much any moment, I'm just trying to get everything ready for our little guy.
Teaching...
As of today I am teaching one last class before taking the next couple months off. Mommy & baby yoga finished up on the 12th (oddly the day I usually post my currently posts, but my schedule's been a little off, so I spaced on that. oops), and I've stopped trying to get subbing gigs for the time being. I did some more subbing through the

And then I turned 30...
Here's where I stand with my 30 goals to accomplish by the time I turned 30. I fell short on a couple, but I think I did really great overall. The thing I didn't get to will just become life goals - who needs a timeline anyway, right?
1.
2. Redo the master bedroom & bath (Repainted 11/9-11/10/13), Bathroom scheduled to be done before yoga baby arrives in December.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7. Try (at least) one new recipe every month (October 2012, November 2012 , December 2012, January 2013, February 2013, March 2013, April 2013, May 2013, June 2013, July 2013, August 2013, September 2013, October 2013, November 2013, December 2013, January 2014, February 2014, March 2014, April 2014, May 2014, June 2014, July 2014) You can probably see I ended up missing a few months, but I like this goal in general. I've loved trying new things in the kitchen at least once a month. Even when I'm busy, I can usually get in at least one new recipe. :)

30 x 30; Reupholster the Kitchen Chairs
Did you see my post on instagram over the weekend? If you did then you know that updating the fabric on these chairs has been on my to-do list for over 3 years. *cough cough* closer to 4...
...when my parents nabbed this table and chairs at Salvation Army and gave them to me as a Christmas gift in 2009. (TWO THOUSAND NINE!!!)
When they gave them to me, my mom said something about how they thought I could reupholster the seat cushions. I hadn't done anything like that since I was 14 or 15, but I thought it was a great idea - a way to make this used dining set a little more my own.

January Cure
This time last year I was diving head first into Apartment Therapy's 10 ways to be happier at home. I did periodic check-ins (week 1, week 3) through the month and even focused on it in a guest post on my friend, Alyssa's, blog.
The biggest thing I learned in my journey being happier at home was not that I will love my bedroom if the bed is made, it's about how I feel about my bed being made, how I feel about doing the dishes or the laundry or picking up around the house. If it makes me feed good or accomplished then I will be happy there, if I resent doing the dishes, no matter how sparkly clean it is, I will grumble when I walk into the room.

Recap Summer 2013
I don't know if you caught it, but I totally didn't do a Spring recap. Spring kind of melted into winter and summer and wasn't really it's own thing. I've decided to include some March and April in here for that reason. Just a little bit.
Above: I ran my second 10K. It was harder than the first.
I also did some fun arm balance stuff while I was at work.
A friend and I took the dogs out to Malibu and hike/walked. Then we went to the Country Mart and got them whipped cream.

Saying Goodbye to the Scary
Before I get into this, I feel the need to preface...
This is not a deeply philosophical post about facing your fears and moving on or anything like that. I'm talking about a tree - a big scary tree.
The other day, I mentioned we paid someone to help us with "something else around the house". This is what I was talking about.
We have a GIANT tree on our patio. It's taller than our tall skinny house. Really.

30 x 30; Clean Out & Reorganize the Garage
Y'AAAAAALL! This weekend we cleaned out, repainted, and reorganized the garage. This is what I looked like on Sunday - midday. We weren't even close to done.
But before I talk to much about the middle, let's go back to the beginning, shall we?
We bought our condo in 2010. The garage was already half full of junk - old paint, extra drywall, you name it. Then T's parents moved from the Bay to SD, so all the stuff he'd left at their old house, was moved into our garage - along with a pretty huge collection of random tools and supplies we "might need someday". Then I finally got most of my stuff out of my parents' house (there's still a little over there, I think) and that went into the garage. Then over this past Christmas, T's parents made a final trip up North to clean out their storage units, and on the way down left boxes upon boxes and even some furniture for us - which we sorted through and then ultimately stored in THE GARAGE.
The garage... which was already painted dank dark grey and had built in shelving units that were falling apart, including one that jutted out into the garage so we each hit our heads on it more than once - many a gash and bruise were had.
OH! AND! For a long time we were keeping rolls of carpet because one of the couples' my aunt sold a house to ripped out the brand new carpet and gave it to us. The trouble was that it had been rolled up for so long, it was in terrible condition, so we couldn't use it. So, in the weeks leading up to this little renovation, we'd been slowly throwing away rolls of carpet.

Project Simplify; Drawers & Shelves
I read Simple Mom. I actually got into it initially because I was looking for more podcasts to listen to during my commute. I didn't read the blog for a while. I just liked listening to her talk to her mom friends and found a lot of other great inspirational blogs to follow.
There's something crazy happening in your brain right now. You're right, I don't have kids. I'm fully aware of this fact. What am I doing reading a mom blog? It's simple. I like what she has to say.
This month, Simple Mom is hosting Project Simplify, which - this year - includes less specific project guidelines to accommodate non-parents, like myself. I dig it. I'm in.

Week 1 - Drawers & Shelves
You know the ones… The drawers where everything gets crammed and forgotten, the shelves that you don’t want to touch because everything would fall. This week, you’ll tackle these. You’ll declutter, clean, and organize these little hideaways, whether they’re in the kitchen, the garage, the kids’ room, or—well, everywhere. Do as many or as few as you want.

Accomplished
Friday was a big day in the life of us because these things happened:
- I hung out with my grandparents and talked about arc welding with my grandpa. He has fancier tools than I used in college. I should add that to the random facts about me. I know how to weld.
- I coordinated getting our house cleaned once a month. (Heck yes!)
- Our taxes were filed. Done.
- Bought myself a new pair of shoes. These, if you must know.
- I talked to a landscaper about getting the giant scary tree on our property trimmed. We've only been talking about doing that for about two years...
- We went out and bought a popover pan. Half of item #30.
AND...
- It was T's last day at his job of 3 and a half years. He'll now be doing almost the same thing, but at a bigger company with more opportunity for growth. We are both SO EXCITED, and I am SO PROUD of my hubby. For those of you following along, we celebrated him putting in his notice with dark chocolate sweet potato bread pudding
The weekend continued on an uber productive trajectory, including buying a few new plants and doing a mini reorg on the patio. :)

Happy Thoughts
The last two weeks have been kind of exceptional when it came to my be happy post. I actually planned them in advance. I knew exactly what I wanted to say, so when Thursday morning rolled around, all I had to do was hit publish.
Life has gotten away from me this week. Lots of talking and planning, but not a lot of change in the day-to-day activity. I've fallen pretty far behind on our meditation challenge, but I am still managing to work them into my evenings here and there.
So, this morning on my way to work I was thinking what could I write about that would help us all (I'm totally including myself in here) better understand where I am on my happiness journey and I had a little tiny epiphany.
One of the things I've been struggling to get started as part of my happy at home project is the one line a day journal. Weird, right? I've been writing on my blog at least 4 days a week, but I can't take 30 seconds to write one line in my journal?
I found my road block and then I - just as easily - crushed it.
How would I sum up my entire day in one sentence? Would it be sufficient to say "Today was good", "Today was bad", or "Today we went on a walk"? And the conclusion I came to is that it doesn't really matter.
Here I am in this place when I am trying to see the best in everything. So when I finally sit down to write my one line a day, coming up with something I'm grateful for, or a line to summarize the day should be easy - especially since who the heck said I have to limit myself to one line? If I want to write two or three because I think it will be more fulfilling, no one is going to stop me.
I also realized that by trying to focus on the positive - "Today I made bread pudding to celebrate" - I can look back at my journal and see the happy, and I'll be more likely to err towards happy in my less than awesome moments.
Remember this is a linkup. Make sure to follow some of the links below to see how these amazing ladies are doing with their happiness projects.

Week 3 HAH Update
This week a bunch of the Be Happy crew is at Alt. I know they're having an amazing time and I am with them in spirit. I can't wait to hear about all the Alt Summit adventures and things that they've learned.
I am home this week, and since I'm home - enjoying my space that, though messy, I love - I thought I would give you a little update into how I'm doing with my Happy at Home project.

Week One HAH Update
The acronym for Happy at Home is HAH. I think that's wonderful. It makes me giggle a little bit.
So much has happened this week, and so much of it has had to do with my Happy at Home project from Apartment Therapy.
1. Make your bed. I did this for the first time today! Since last week, I've been throwing the blankets back into place, but this morning I took the time to go around the bed and tuck everything in. Just doing it made me feel happier - like I'd accomplished something new. It's silly, I know, but so far, it's working. I'll take it.
2. Bring every room back to "ready." I really should have shared some kind of photo of the disastrous state of our living room post Christmas - gift wrap, boxes, dog toys, stuffing, socks, empty yogurt containers (we let the dog clean them out after we finish), tubs upon tubs of the stuff from Tim's parents we needed to go through. I'd tried sorting through most of it, but it was still blocking most of the walkway around and behind the couch. This room had not been "ready" in over a month. So, Monday I stayed home from work and a focused all my energy on this room. I put on some of my DVR'd favorites, made sure everything that needed to be in a box was in a box, everything that needed to be in the trash was in the trash, took down the Christmas tree, pressed start on the Roomba (oh, how I heart you, Roomba), and restored this room to its former glory. I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!!!! HOLY MOLY! It's more than a huge weight has been lifted - it's like I can see my home again. I can snuggle up on the couch and not be thinking about this random pile of picture frames I always seem to accidentally hit my shin on - they've now been donated, btw. On a more serious note, I forgot that we ever had a clean living room. I started to have weird panic attacks. It was bad. All of that is gone now, and I feel so much better having resolved to myself to never let the room get to that state ever EVER again.

Happy at Home
Happy New Year! Happy First linkup of 2013!
Last week I found (and by found I mean, someone shared it) this list of 10 ways to be happier at home and I just about died. Everything they suggested sounded amazing.
You know what makes it better? Most of their sourcing comes from Gretchen Rubin, the Happiness Project guru.
I was so inspired by this list that I've decided to go through it and makes some notes on how I could apply these 10 suggestions to my home.

Thanksgiving 2012: Prep
We're kind of hosting Thanksgiving this year. It's like a mini Thanksgiving.
Thursday we'll be going to my parents' house. I'm bringing risotto (maybe pumpkin this time) and bundt cake. Easy peasy. I'm pumped.
But FRIDAY, Friday has been dubbed "Thanksgiving-er" or Thanksgiving Strikes Back. Long story short, Tim's parents didn't want to drive up early, so they're coming up on Friday morning and we're having a smaller separate Thanksgiving with them. My parents may come too. I promised my mom we would not force her to eat a lot.
But even though it's small, we still have to get our house ready for guests. We haven't had anyone stay in our guestroom since June, and then Tim worked from home most of the summer, which turned my sewing/computer room into his office, and all of my stuff got piled up on the bed. Sorry potential guests.
I am by no means a domestic goddess. It is a challenge for me to clean the kitchen every day, but I do it because I love to see my kitchen sparkle - we worked hard enough on it.
Our house is always a mess. I shudder to think what it will turn into if we have kids.
But it's been especially messy lately for a couple of reasons. Hubs has been absolutely SWAMPED at work. He ends up bringing work home with him and the rest of his time is spent doing things that take his mind off work - unfortunately, that doesn't including cleaning.
And on top of that, I am in yoga teacher training right now. I'm actually only in class 9 hours a week, but top that with all the studying I have, plus hours of taking yoga class, observing, and assisting, and my schedule is jam packed.
It's also really important to us that we don't use our free time being couch potatoes, so we make sure to get some kind of workout every day. Staying healthy also keeps our house from being clean.
But enough with the excuses. Things are the way they are, and this weekend I am cleaning like a mad woman.
...and taking yoga and going out for brunch with my hubby. ;)
Thursday night I started to tackle the guestroom. I cleaned up most of the junk that had collected on the floor, put all our suitcases away in the closet, packed up my art supplies. I meant to bring a stack of old financials to work with me on Friday to shred, but I spaced, so I'll have to do that this week.
Friday night was more cleaning. Because I went to yoga in the morning, I had the whole evening to GSD (get sh*t done). Two loads of laundry, folded and put away. More guest room mess tackling - mostly getting crap off the bed because it really should not have been there anyway - that place is for Panda naps. ;) I also managed to sweep up the clumps of dog hair off the stairs.
Today I am hoping to finish everything else. Change all the sheets on both beds, vacuum (luckily, the robot can take care of the living room), dust, put away random clothing items (shoes and socks that get taken off and left wherever), put the upstairs bathroom back together, put fresh towels in the guest bath, organize the workout equipment, clean the wood floors, maybe even go over all the stainless steal with some fancy stainless steal cleaner.
The biggest hurdle is what to do with all the junk that doesn't necessarily have a place. I'm going to try and throw as much of it out as possible, but I already know most of it won't be tossable.
Once I'm done cleaning, maybe I can attempt to make our place look a little festive. Who knows!?
Do you have family staying with you for Thanksgiving? Do you have to do as much cleaning as I do?

Recap Summer 2012!
I didn't realize how much I've done/accomplished this summer until I started looking through pictures. It's actually pretty amazing.
According to the interwebs, the first day of summer was June 20th, but if my summer started there, then I went on a Spring Vacation to Northern Italy? No.
My summer was June through September. Let's get this going, yo...
We went on an amazing vacation to Northern Italy.
Tim and I nabbed the room with the private patio.
We went wine tasting in Verona.

Kitchen Remodel; Part 3
The kitchen is done!!!! ...mostly
It's as good as done anyway. Look at some pictures of it and then I'll tell you what's not done. :)
"Whaaaat?", you say? "This is incomplete?" you say?
Yeah.
*sad face*
Here's what's missing...
* A window covering - We bought blinds at Home Depot, but they are too long and we need to take about half of the slats out before we can hang it. I've asked my husband to do it before he leaves me for four days, so I can close the kitchen blinds while he's gone. (It annoys me that the neighbors can see straight into my kitchen all the time). He's just going to put them up at their current length and I MAAAAY attempt to remove the slats while he's gone.
* Pretty knobs and handles on the cabinets and drawers - We bought these too. They're in bags, waiting to be installed. They only haven't been because we've been busy. They were supposed to go up yesterday, but we ended up having a really busy day, so no knobs for me...yet.
* Switch plates - We have these too... and a couple of them are even up...but the extra half inch of wall made putting them up a slightly more complicated task than we anticipated. I think we ran out of bolts of some kind? I don't know. Ask my husband. He was doing it. *shrug*
And then we're done... Done done, like, for realsies.
And now to close, here is a picture of our dog, Panda, helping me put everything away in the kitchen.

This baker's rack is a lifesaver. It's extra counter and storage space without eating into the kitchen. Also, its a place to keep the wine. ;)

Kitchen Remodel; Part 2
I feel a little more like writing today, so here's a little background and some other stuff you might like to know about our kitchen/house.
In September 2010 we bought our little townhouse with "good bones" and we've spent the last year and a half slowly making improvements one room at a time.
First my husband cleaned, repainted and installed new fixtures in our master bathroom. It went from gross to not gross in a period of 2 days. I wanted to do a different room first, but he insisted - since I refused to shower in the master bath because of the grossness. I appreciated it. There are only so many mornings in November someone can walk to the downstairs bath barefoot on cold laminate when they'd rather be in bed to begin with. ;)
Next we tackled the living room, which was a month long process of painting and patching and waiting for carpet, all the while using the dining room as a living room, before finally buying a new couch and curtains.
My husband surprised me somewhere in there by taking a day off work to repaint the downstairs bath.
Then we did the patio. This one's an ongoing process. Plants die. Pots break. I like to move things around.
Then we revamped the 2nd bedroom. It needed paint and some major organization.
Then we had the dining room repainted - couldn't do this one ourselves, stupid 20 ft ceilings - and my hubs and his dad magically put up a new chandelier. It's a whole new room.
Which brings us up to now. We are remodeling the kitchen. In case you didn't see this, which I posted less than a week ago.
My aunts, uncles and grandparents all pitched in and got us this amazing set of Frigidaire appliances as a wedding gift last August. HOLY AMAZINGNESS!!!! Of course, I wanted to install them all right away, but I was told we needed to wait until we remodeled the kitchen to put in the microwave and dishwasher since we'd be repainting the cabinets and installing new countertops. So two of these four beautiful appliances sat in their boxes in the garage for 11 months while we figured out the best time to remodel the kitchen. The other two (fridge and range) we started using right away - and they were gloooorious.
Two weeks ago we finally started to empty out the kitchen to get ready for the remodel. Everything was put in boxes and stored in the dining room and living room, where it will stay probably until Thursday. : /
Then my husband went around and took off all of the cabinet doors while I started scrubbing down all of the shelves to prep them for painting. This took far too long. Tim also decided to tackle the fluorescent light box on the ceiling and take off a small chunk of old countertop.
The next weekend (last weekend) sh*t blew up. My in-laws came up and the demolition/reconstruction project officially began. Hubs and his dad tore out the existing sink, composite countertops, the old wobbly microwave, and old dishwasher while my MIL and I were down in the garage cleaning and repainting all 1,000 cabinet doors and drawers - no, we don't really have 1,000 cabinet doors.
The biggest projects for the weekend were, of course, tackled by my husband and his dad. They had to cut the shiny new butcherblock countertops to fit our little kitchen, then fit the new sink - and cut a giant hole for said sink - then reconnect all the plumbing, pull out the old heavy slimey microwave and the temperamental dishwasher. They also took down the entire old weird/gross light fixture and replaced it with a ceiling fan, which will be SO fantastic when we're cooking and trying to keep the smoke alarms from going off (because they're too close to the kitchen).
Then Tim and his dad put in the shiny new microwave and dishwasher before the in-laws hit the road last Sunday afternoon.
This weekend the adventures continued sans in-laws. It was time to paint and tile.
Saturday was just painting - inside and outside all of the shelves and cabinets. It took all day and was exhausting. Especially the climbing into the pantry part. Our pantry wraps around the fridge. It's weird, I know. We wanted to make sure we were doing it "right", so I had to climb inside to paint the deepest depths of the pantry even though no one will ever see or appreciate my work.
Sunday was tiling for me and more painting for Tim. Instead of using traditional adhesive to stick the tiles to the wall, we used simplemat. Tim found it on the interwebs and it ended up being my savior for the weekend. It's peal and stick with tiling - completely baffling and completely amazing.
The killer part of installing tile was the grout. I think I hate grout. It's my nemesis. Timing it so that I did a big enough chunk to be worthwhile, but small enough that I could wipe off the excess before it dried too much was brutal and exhausting. It took me between 2 and 3 hours just to grout the backsplash. My arms/shoulders were crying.
That was the last thing we did yesterday - until I ran up to the kitchen to put up one of the cabinet doors just for kicks. It was already 11:30pm at this point, so I wasn't about to put up all the doors, but I liked the idea of putting up one. So, I did. :)
The next four days we'll be finishing and cleaning the kitchen. My birthday's on Friday, so we're having some of my family over to see the kitchen and celebrate my existence. : P
So, we have to be done.

Kitchen Remodel; Part 1
I don't really feel like writing much, so here are some pictures and captions of our kitchen remodel in progress...
Last night we picked out the backsplash tiles and tomorrow we're going to Lowe's to pick them up - yes, one store actually had 26 sq feet of the same backsplash tile IN STOCK. It was like Christmas.
This weekend we're finishing it all - repainting the cabinets, walls/ceiling, sealing the countertops, installing cabinet hardware, lining all the shelves and drawers.
We need to do something about the window covering...bleeeeeeh. Still not sure what the plan is there, but we'll get to it. No big.

And then they did manly things like cutting a new hole for the sink...

Then they had to see how it looked/fit, so they tested it out. PERFECT!

It's a mess, but by the end of the day we had new countertops, sink, faucet, dishwasher, microwave and ceiling fan, which you can't see.
